Lower Murray River & Coorong
A special camp that focuses on the Ngarrindjeri tribe and their beautiful wetlands – the Lower Murray River and Coorong region. We visit Indigenous historical sites such as Raukkan Church, as well as take a guided tour seeing river-side Aboriginal Rock Art at Ngaut Ngaut conservation park. We include a waterfall hike at Mannum, and an opportunity to search for real seashell fossils!… We also sneak in a cheeky wine tour at Langhorne Creek!
This camp includes:
* All meals, courtesy of our chef!
* Accommodation at our riverside campground, tent hire and all equipment.
* A wine tasting and wine tour experience at Langhorne Creek.
* A visit to Ngarrindjeri historical site – Raukkan Church, as seen on the $50 note
* A ‘fossil hunt’ at a geological site near the Murray River
* A guided tour to Ngaut Ngaut Conservation Park, to learn about the Aboriginal Rock Art
* Some light hiking of scenic Murray River destinations
* All transport there, back and around the area
What better way to start off the trip with a wine tour and wine tasting at Langhorne Creek wine region! We follow this up with a visit to our first historic Indigenous site, the Raukkan Church as featured on the $50 note. Raukkan is the birthplace of David Unaipon, a Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal author, inventor and political leader.
After lunch we head up to PINK inland salt lake for a chance to take photos and see amazing natural phenomenon! We continue the same route to find ourselves at our private river-side campsite, where we have toilets and showers available. Its time for our official meet and greet, dinner & social drinks before some free time under the stars.
We wake up to a nice breakfast and head out for our ‘fossil hunt’ nearby our campsite, where we have a good opportunity to find real fossils from hundreds or thousands of years ago! After our fossil hunting adventure, we have lunch and head up to the protected and beautifully untouched Ngaut Ngaut Conservation Park, with a private guided tour from our Indigenous Ngarrindjeri host, looking at Rock Art and traditional Dreamtime Painting.
As we make our way back down the river to our campsite, we have dinner and social drinks – and as we are located just 100m from the river, sometimes the yabbie nets come out for some. Check the nets in morning to see if any Murray River yabbies have crawled inside!
After another beautiful breakfast is served, we take an opportunity to do a scenic hike to the beautiful Mannum Waterfalls. A great chance to take in the natural landscape of the Murray River region.
After a well deserved chef-made lunch, a big final packup of our campsite is due. As we finish up, we head back towards Adelaide and spend some time at Hahndorf Town, the well-known German community township, in the outer Adelaide Hills. Relax and chill out, or check out some of the well-known shops such as the cheese shop and sweets shop!
Our 3 day adventure concludes as we arrive back in Adelaide near sundown… time to catch up on sleep!
