Bushwalking on School Camps

Students Explore Australia are experienced at delivering Outdoor Education to a wide variety of clients, we can custom design a program to suit a group’s needs and desired outcomes. This includes anything from short day-walks with teachable moments, to expedition-style journeys with deep enriching experiences. We have a wide variety of options to suit any budget and we can take care of absolutely everything for you, or allow your group to conduct parts of the program yourself to help reduce the cost. Generally, we are able to help with or  transport, gear, food, packing lists, scheduling, risk management and everything involved in a safe, fun program.

Bushwalking Programs

Journey Style Programs

These are expeditions, where a group travels together experiencing different activities along the way. The group is self-dependent, which creates many learning opportunities. Journey style bushwalking programs can be run in the Flinders Ranges, Kangaroo Island and Fleurieu Peninsula using established bushwalking tracks. We have journeys ranging from single day, right through to 12 day + programs.

Day walks

Day walks can be offered as single day or multi-day programs from Adelaide. We can pick your group up in the morning and have them back at school by the bell! There are many full day and half day bushwalks within driving distance from most schools in Adelaide and nearby regions. Our facilitators can go through bushwalking skills, gear, teamwork, safety and a number of bushwalking related topics – depending on your groups desired outcomes.

Pricing Options

For all our all inclusive options, we can cover all aspects of a dedicated bushwalking school camp. This includes everything from risk management paperwork, bus transport, itinerary management, entrance fees to national parks, food supplies and facilitating cooking (or full catering if need be) and of course we can supply all gear if needed.

For budget options, SEA can take care of the main aspects of the program such as facilitating content and the bushwalk itself, and you can take care of some other aspects that might include food, transport and managing bookings and risk and so on. We’ll work with you to provide information on how to properly DIY any aspect of the program.

Possible Program Outcomes

Wellbeing

It is proven that spending time in nature improves the wellbeing of young people. Through bushwalking, students develop outdoor skills that allow them to utilise nature when out with their families or independently, later in life. We travel to some of the most scenic spots in Australia, which allows us to truly inspire students to fall in love with what nature can offer.

Teamwork

Bushwalking is a great outdoor activity for groups learning how to efficiently work in a team. Many concepts can be taught to groups to ensure lessons are transferable to students’ lives. Whether participants walk for multiple days, or simply enjoy a half-day hike, our bushwalks can give each student  the opportunity to participate in a group role, and ultimately contribute to the group’s success.

Leadership

Bushwalking offers opportunities for students to gain leadership skills. We can tailor programs to include aspects of group management, strategies to look after each other, skills to ensure the group is sticking together and critical decision making skills. Through developing these skills, students naturally build their own confidence, and arrive on top of their own mountains!

Resilience

Each program or bushwalking activity can include aspects of resilience building. Our ‘Challenge by Choice’ style of program requires students to think outside the box, in order for the group to overcome the challenge – and of course, tests their resilience and allows them to be exceptionally conscious of their own decision making. When students go beyond their comfort zones, they are given a unique opportunity to develop themselves and grow more resilient.
